Check your owner’s manual for your German automobile to see when tune-ups are recommended. Then, bring your vehicle to HQ Autosport so we can replace the spark plugs and tune the ignition system. If you ignore the need for tune-ups, you will start to have serious problems with your German automobile’s performance, such as a surging engine. You will also have the following additional problems.
Difficult Starts
It can be difficult to get the German automobile started if the spark plugs have worn out. When they wear out, they have problems generating the sparks that the cylinders need to ignite the air and fuel. Without ignited air and fuel, the engine cannot produce combustion. Consequently, you will start to have problems starting your German automobile if it is overdue for a tune-up.
Misfiring
If you get the automobile started, you may hear misfiring in the engine. This can sound as if the engine is knocking. This is a sign that one or more of the spark plugs is not working. Some of the spark plugs are working if you got the engine started, but not all of them if the engine is misfiring. A misfiring engine can make it difficult to drive your German automobile as it will lag and sputter.
Rough Idling
A misfiring engine will also cause the idle to be rougher than normal. You’ve heard the expression, “firing on all cylinders.” This comes from the need for a tune-up. If your engine is not firing on all cylinders, i.e., there is not ignition in each cylinder because one or more of the plugs did not produce a spark, the idle will be rough because the combustion will be compromised.
Acceleration Lag
The acceleration is also going to lag in your German automobile if it is not firing on all cylinders. This can make driving the vehicle extremely frustrating. When you press down on the accelerator, you will not get the normal performance that you get out of your German automobile’s engine. Usually, the performance is high because these are high-performance automobiles.
Poor Economy
Finally, failure to have your German automobile tuned regularly can reduce the fuel economy. With gas prices what they are in California, you need to get as many miles as you can out of each gallon. Make sure to have your German automobile tuned for maximum fuel efficiency.
We can do that here at HQ Autosport in Escondido, CA, so call us today to set up a service visit.
